When purchasing a walking stick, consideration should be given to replacement ferrules. A walking stick which is in regular daily use will wear a ferrule quicker than a stick which is used on occasions. However rubber degrades and walking stick ferrules should be checked regularly for signs of wear and tear. Our selection of replacement ferrules are all good quality and includes all popular sizes and styles. If you purchased your walking stick from Country Canes, then simply look at the description (we include replacement ferrule details on all our walking sticks) or contact us for the right replacement rubber ferrule. Otherwise, if you need to measure your existing walking stick measure the diameter of the shaft not the inside of the ferrule. Again, if you are unsure contact us and we will do our very best to help. Our selection of replacement ferrules includes specialist items such as tripod ferrules which offer a greater stability. Anti-shock ferrules are appearing on the market and we will include these as soon as we deem them to be a worthwhile purchase.
Checking your Rubber Ferrule
Your new rubber ferrule should last for 6+ months with regular use. A worn or split ferrule can easily lead to a slip or fall. Look for splits in the rubber or the contact area wearing thin.
Removing the old ferrule
Twist or rock the old ferrule to break the seal and then pull it off. As this can be difficult, it may be a good idea to ask someone strong to remove the original ferrule. It is just a little easier to remove the ferrule in a warm room. Do not throw the old ferrule away until you have successfully fitted the new replacement.
Fixing the new ferrule
The new ferrule can then be pushed or twisted onto the bottom of the stick. To ensure the ferrule is tightly fitted, simply lean on the walking stick.
